Is a Professor of Computer Science at Middlebury College and the author of numerous books, including The Mind and the Machine: What it Means to be Human and Why it Matters. He has also authored several works of scholarship on the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, in addition to medieval historical novels, works of fantasy literature, and guides to flyfishing in many parts of the US. Matthew earned his PhD in computer science from Cornell University.
