Robot Dog: Servant, Pet, or Friend?
Can a robot dog be “man’s best friend”? Answer that question and you have come close to solving the riddle of what it means to be to be a friend.
Robot dogs have something to teach us about what it means to be human. Sony released a new litter of AIBO (Artificial Intelligence Bot) robot dogs earlier this year. They first commercialized robot dogs back in 1999, but killed off the breed in 2007 after having sold 150,000 units. The new dogs are more playful, skillful and intelligent. They will make some people happy, especially those who can’t care for a real dog, or don’t want to clean up after a puppy.
Robot dogs are perhaps the first mass-market robots able to learn and evolve personalities based upon artificial intelligence. read more…
