Meet our Speakers:

Host: Pablo Ruz Salmones is a Mexican polymath. He is the founder and CEO of X eleva Group, a leading Artificial Intelligence development firm in Mexico. He is also a pianist and composer, having performed on stages in Mexico, New Zealand, and the United States. Pablo contributes regularly to various media outlets in Mexico and around the world, and has delivered lectures on AI, Ethics, Art, and other topics for renowned companies, universities, and research institutes in several countries He has published articles in international academic journals on Education for Sustainable Development, in collaboration with researchers from Humboldt University in Berlin. In his free time, he practices Kung Fu at the Shaolin Temple of Mexico.

Dr. Mohammed Ghaly is a Professor of Islam and Biomedical Ethics at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), holding degrees in Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar and Leiden Universities. His research bridges Islamic ethics with frontier technologies, with a primary focus on biomedical sciences and, increasingly, Artificial Intelligence. He has contributed to AI ethics through publications on topics such as medical accountability in AI-enabled healthcare and the future of work in the age of AI. These scholarly pursuits are complemented by his leadership roles, including serving as Lead Principal Investigator for a major grant on Generative AI and Islamic Studies and chairing HBKU’s international conference on AI Ethics. He is currently synthesizing this research into a solicited monograph on the topic for Cambridge University Press. Dr. Ghaly also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Islamic Ethics.

Cory Andrew Labrecque, PhD, is professor of bioethics and theological ethics and the inaugural chair of educational leadership in the ethics of life at the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies at Université Laval in Quebec City, where he serves as vice-dean. Cory earned a BSc in anatomy and cell biology, an MA in religious studies specialising in bioethics, and a PhD in religious ethics at McGill. Cory’s teaching and research explore how the Abrahamic religions—focusing on the Roman Catholic tradition—approach ethical issues in medicine (especially at the end of life), biotechnology (with an interest in AI) , and the environment. Cory is a corresponding member of the Pontifical Academy for Life, which counsels the Vatican on ethical issues in medicine, biotechnology, and the environment; he is also a member of the AI Research Group for the Centre for Digital Culture and the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See. Cory is president of the Canadian Bioethics Society, vice-president of the National Committee for Ethics and Ageing (in Quebec), and is a member (appointed by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops) of the Faith and Life Sciences Reference Group of the Canadian Council of Churches.

Tracy J. Trothen is a professor of ethics at Queen’s University (Canada), jointly appointed to the School of Religion and the School of Rehabilitation Therapy. She has expertise in clinical spiritual care and is an ordained minister in the United Church of Canada. Trothen is the author or editor of numerous articles, chapters, and books including her co-authored books, Understanding Religion and Artificial Intelligence: Meaning-Making in the Digital Age (with R. Reed, 2026), and Religion and the Technological Future: An Introduction to Biohacking, AI, and Transhumanism (with C. Mercer, 2021). Tracy co-chairs the American Academy of Religion’s (AAR) Artificial Intelligence Unit and is a Fellow of the International Society for Science and Religion (ISSR).
