Biography

Evaristus Ekwueme, S.J, Ph.D is the Academic Director for Africa and Madagascar, and Global IT Officer at Jesuit Worldwide Learning. He was a visiting professor and Jesuit Chair at Georgetown University, where he taught Philosophy of the Human Person and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence. He was also a former professor if IT and Philosophy, Dean of Studies, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Vice-Chancellor of Arrupe Jesuit University, Zimbabwe. He has distinguished himself in online learning, academic leadership and professorship.

He is a Jesuit priest, a religious order in the Catholic Church. He was a formator of Catholic priests, pastors and religious leaders. Evaristus has authored two books on technology, artificial intelligence and society (2010), the impact of artificial intelligence and social media on human relationship with God (to be released in 2026), and prayers in the age of artificial intelligence (to be released in 2026). He has won several awards for distinctions including University of Zimbabwe book prize, CODESRIA laureat, Lonergan Institute fellowship, and Alpha Sigma Nu Honorary membership.

With a background in information technologies, educational leadership, philosophy and theology, Evaristus is a major speaker in the areas of spirituality and technology, educational leadership, artificial intelligence and human society at several global workshops, conferences, and universities. He has served in several academic boards like the Catholic University of Zimbabwe, the International Association of Jesuit Universities (IAJU), and as the Vice-President of the regional association of IAJU in Africa and Madagascar. In his new role at Jesuit Worldwide Learning, he will guide the global IT and the artificial intelligence strategy of the organization.
