AI and Faith Welcomes Five New Experts

Rajesh Koilpillai (Contributing Fellow-Media/Tech) is a Director at Palmtree Infotech, a product development firm, which specializes
in building web, mobile, generative AI applications. With 30+ year’s experience in developing enterprise software and strong exposure to product development, he has experience with development teams spanning different continents & cultures. His recent interests include natural language processing and translation of content from unstructured data. Koilpillai holds
a Master of Engineering in Applied Electronics from PSG College of Technology, India and a Bachelors of Engineering in Electronics and Communication from Bharathiar University Karunya Institute Of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India.


Quintin McGrath (Research Fellow), is a retired Deloitte IT executive and founder of QplusAI LLC. He is a member of the Board of the CXO Advisory Network of the A.Team start-up, the Blumberg Capital’s CIO Council, Board Member of The Mentor Project, and a Board Member of the Society for Information Management (SIM) Tampa Bay chapter. He chairs the ReThink Everything! SIM Interest Group for IT Leaders. He is also an Adjunct Professor at USF’s Muma College of Business. McGrath holds a Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A.) focused on AI, ethics, and risk management from the University of South Florida, a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Cape Town, and a Master of Arts in Missional Church Movements from Wheaton College, Illinois.

Braden Molhoek (Advisor) is the CTNS Director at the Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences and the Ian G. Barbour Assistant Professor of Theology, Science, Ethics, and Technology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley California. Currently he is the Project Director for the CTNS Grant: “Virtuous AI?: Cultural Evolution, Artificial Intelligence, and Virtue” funded by the John Templeton Foundation. Molhoek is an ethicist interested in emerging technology, how technology shapes humans’ decisions and the intersection of science and religion. Molhoek holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Ethics and Social Theory from the Graduate Theological Union, Master of Theological Studies from Boston University School of Theology and a Bachelors in Genetics and Religion from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Randall Reed (Contributing Fellow-Programs), is Professor of Religion at Appalachian State University. His work center or the intersection of Religion and AI. He is currently co-chair of the American Academy of Religion AI and Religion unit. He has published several articles on Religion and AI including “The Theology of GPT-2: Religion and Artificial Intelligence” (Religion Compass, 2021) and “A.I. in Religion, A.I. for Religion, A.I. and Religion: Towards a Theory of Religious Studies and Artificial Intelligence” (Religions, 2021). He is currently working on a book on A.I. and Religion with Tracy Trothen forthcoming from Routledge. Additional he’s involved in two projects: “Digital Jesus” seeks to finetune A.I. on the sayings of Jesus. “AI Study Buddy” implements A.I. in the classroom, by creating a chatbot to discuss lectures with students in large on-line classes. Reed holds a PhD in the sociology of religion from the University of Chicago.

Richard Zhang (Contributing Fellow-Programs) is Senior Research Engineer at Google Deepmind on the Vizier team and co-creator of OSS Vizier, working on hyperparameter optimization, Bayesian calibration, and theoretical machine learning. He has experience with AI alignment, counterfactuals/fairness and the intersection of Faith and AI. Richard stewards the Global Christians in AI (CHAI) community and organizes talks and workshops at Google and academic conferences about related topics. His advisors include Satish Rao Nikhil Srivastava. Zhang holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at UC Berkeley, and an undergraduate degree from Princeton University.
