AI and Grief: No Tears at the Gates of Weeping #39

In an interview with AI and Faith expert Thomas Arnold, we’ll talk about how AI is affecting our relationship with death, and with our loved ones who have passed away. We’ll delve into how our grieving process is changing, and how that affects what, until today, seemed like a normal, if difficult, part of our lives.

Meet the Speakers:

Host: Pablo A. Ruz Salmones is a Mexican polymath. He is the founder and CEO of X eleva Group, a leading Artificial Intelligence development firm in Mexico. He is also a pianist and composer, having performed on stages in Mexico, New Zealand, and the United States. Pablo contributes regularly to various media outlets in Mexico and around the world, and has delivered lectures on AI, Ethics, Art, and other topics for renowned companies, universities, and research institutes in several countries He has published articles in international academic journals on Education for Sustainable Development, in collaboration with researchers from Humboldt University in Berlin. In his free time, he practices Kung Fu at the Shaolin Temple of Mexico

Thomas Arnold is a research associate at the Human-Robot Interaction Lab at Tufts University and Programs team co-lead for AI and Faith.  His work focuses on the ethical evaluation and design of AI systems for interactive contexts, and his articles in AI ethics have tackled topics like robot touch, value alignment, and computational representations of norms. Thomas was the co-organizer of AI100’s “Coding Caring” workshop and is the co-author of “Ethics for Psychologists: A Casebook Approach” (Sage, 2011). He has taught at Tufts, Harvard, Stonehill, and Tsinghua University, with ethics courses in both religious studies and computer science departments. He is completing a doctoral dissertation in the Committee on the Study of Religion at Harvard University.
