There is so much happening in the world of artificial intelligence that keeping up can feel impossible. To help us cut through the noise, we invited two experts from the AI and Faith community to unpack what’s on their radar right now. Our guests are Ben Christensen, business technologist and founder of SAP Interfaith Alliance, and Dr. Marcus Schwarting, AI researcher at SUNY Buffalo and senior editor at AI and Faith. Tune in as we discuss the latest AI model releases, AI and discrimination, the ethics of dual-use technologies, and the feedback our editor has been hearing from you, our listeners.

 

Meet our speakers:

Host: Gilad Berenstein is currently working in venture capital in Seattle after founding and leading a successful travel personalization startup and serving as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2). Gilad holds masters and undergraduate degrees from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington.

Ben Christensen leads partnerships for AI 2030, an NGO reaching 60 countries to mainstream responsible AI tools and talent to protect people and planet. He builds systems and coalitions to help humans understand eachother. He founded the SAP Interfaith Alliance. He works with researchers from Cultural Infusion to turn anthrodata into cultural intelligence. He is a senior fellow for AEGiX Institute for AI Governance, an advisor to Advanced AI Society, and is a founding contributor to IEEE’s global AI flourishing initiative.

Marcus Schwarting (PhD, CS, University of Chicago) is the senior editor of AI and Faith and an AI researcher at SUNY Buffalo. His research is focused on applying ML/AI to problems in chemistry and materials science. His technical work has been published at venues including Nature Scientific Data, NeurIPS, and the Journal of Chemical Physics. His work on AI ethics has been published in Christianity Today, the Journal of Theology and Science, and the Journal of Lutheran Ethics.
